What SyncTheory is

SyncTheory matches readers with overlapping taste so they can read the same book together and talk about it. This is not a dating or romantic matchmaking service. Matches are based solely on shelf overlap, and the product is built around reading, not romance. Using SyncTheory to solicit dates, romantic relationships, or anything unrelated to reading is a violation of these terms.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction to use SyncTheory. By signing in, you confirm that’s true.

Your account

You sign in with Google, and you’re responsible for whatever happens under your account. Keep your Google account secure — we have no separate password to protect it with. Give us accurate information on your profile; don’t impersonate anyone else.

Expected conduct

When using SyncTheory, you agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, or abuse another user, in chat or at a meetup
• Use the app for dating, solicitation, or any romantic purpose
• Impersonate someone else or misrepresent what you’ve actually read
• Scrape, spam, or use the app to advertise something unrelated to reading
• Attempt to access another user’s account or data

Meetups

SyncTheory helps two matched readers agree on a time and place to talk — it doesn’t run, supervise, or verify what happens there beyond the Google sign-in each person used to join. Meeting anyone from the internet, online or in person, carries real risk, and that risk is yours to manage: pick public places, tell someone where you’re going, and trust your judgment. SyncTheory isn’t responsible for what happens between users during or after a meetup.

Account removal

If we receive multiple complaints about your account, or see behavior that breaks these terms, we reserve the right to suspend or permanently remove your account, with or without prior notice. We’ll generally try to tell you why, but for anything involving another user’s safety we may not be able to share details. You’re also free to stop using SyncTheory and request deletion of your account at any time — see the Privacy Policy for how.

No warranty

SyncTheory is provided as-is. We work to keep matches useful and the app running, but we don’t guarantee you’ll find a reading partner, that the service will be uninterrupted, or that it’s free of bugs. Use it at your own discretion.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the app changes. If we make a material change, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use SyncTheory after a change means you accept the new terms.
